On May 15th, for the first time in 84 years, the 3rd planet from the Edge of our discovered Solar System, Uranus—entered the sign of Taurus. The last time this occurred, 1935-42, it was a true adventure. The Industrial Revolution sparked profound changes, and economics were touchy and people all over the world were struggling. In Germany, Adolph Hitler was on the rise—all of Europe was baffled...at first, no one could believe his hyperbole—and the rumors of his bullying troops, very strong divisional rhetoric, and his (reports-- no one could actually believe he did this) of separating families and sending them off to camps. It was crazy—and hard to believe, so for the most part people, overwhelmed, went “back to sleep” and felt safe—as long as they weren’t Jewish. We all know how THAT turned out. Watching the similarity of events, I am astonished—and truly troubled—where will this situation lead us?

Astrology is about patterns. The planets travel in consistent and predictable ways—their movements can be calculated for centuries—going one way or another. We know that every 84 years Uranus will travel completely around the Sun. We know that every 164 years Neptune will travel this same celestial highway, and every 248, the planet Pluto (or planetoid—it doesn't matter what you call it) completes its journey around the Sun as well.

At this time, Uranus is where it was preceding WW2, Neptune is in Pisces, where it first entered the last year of the Civil War, (and stayed there for 14 years, presiding over the post Civil War reconstruction) and Pluto has returned to the place it began when the United States became a sovereign country, July 4, 1776. At that time, in the chart of the USA, Pluto was 27 degrees of Capricorn. Today, it is traveling towards the place it was when we were “born”. It will be our first Pluto “Return”. Every 248 years, like clockwork. It will reach it's exact return in 2023...and we are, until that time, charged with defining Who We Are. By the way, Pluto, God of The Underworld (meaning—what is under the belief, motives, drive) entered Capricorn, the sign of The Government, for the first time since the Revolutionary War, in November of 2008. It will be there until 2025... and I imagine, we will have decided just exactly who we are by then.

Our questions are: are we better than everyone else in the world? Do we deserve more of everything than everyone else in the world? Do we have every right to pollute more? Utilize more? Separate ourselves from all other species and countries—and determine the fate of all of the oceans and the entire atmosphere-- all by ourselves? It is a question for each and every one of us.
